In Christchurch, a city brimming with global talent and ambition, The Warring Group is dedicated to creating venues that match its sophistication. Founder David Warring sees post-earthquake Christchurch as New Zealand’s prime city for growth, and his company is committed to making it a vibrant place to live, invest, and thrive.
David’s passion for hospitality was shaped by his curiosity of people & his time as a champagne ambassador for Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, where he trained in France at renowned houses like Veuve Clicquot, Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon, and Krug. There, he embraced stewardship: leading with a long-term vision to nurture a legacy for both community and team.
This vision took shape in 2021 when David boldly relocated King of Snake from a small Victoria Street spot to a premier location during the Covid pandemic. Despite skepticism, the community’s support proved him right. “We’re deeply grateful,” David says. “Our guests believe in us, and we strive to honor that every day.”
The Warring Group now includes King of Snake, Monarch, Roca, and the upcoming Hugo and Botanic. Leading the charge is a core team: Jennifer, David’s wife and an architectural designer shaping each venue’s elegance; Lewis, COO, ensuring operational excellence; Leanne, CFO, managing finances with care; and Stuart, Executive Chef, a long-time friend and collaborator.
With nearly 100 staff from New Zealand and beyond, the group invests in its people, fostering growth and global competitiveness. “Every team member is vital,” David emphasizes. “We want everyone who joins us to leave stronger and more skilled.”
The Warring Group’s mission goes beyond business—it’s about meaningful impact. Their venues are crafted to make Christchurch proud, offering spaces where locals celebrate milestones and host global guests in settings rivaling Paris or Sydney. “Our guests are our CEO,” David says. “Some days we excel; others, we learn. But we’re driven to enrich lives in our own way.”
In a thriving Christchurch, The Warring Group’s venues are cultural cornerstones, reflecting a city ready to shine on the world stage, fueled by community, gratitude, and hope.
